Scatterbox Cushion Elodie Natural

The Scatterbox Cushion Elodie Natural is a scatter cushion in short polyester velvet with a cut fringe along each edge. Natural is the palest colourway in the Elodie run, and it comes in two sizes that layer in front of one another.

Undyed Tones in a Dense Weave

Pale velvet shows its pile more clearly than a dark one, because there is no depth of colour to hide the direction the fibres lie in. Brushed one way it looks ivory, the other way closer to stone. The fringe is cut short and even, so against a pale ground it reads as a line rather than a texture, and it keeps the edge of the cushion defined where a plain hem would disappear.

Starting a Scheme From the Cushion

A pale face is the easiest place to begin a group, because every other colour in the room can be chosen against it rather than the other way round. It will take a bolder cushion in front of it without looking washed out, and it reads clearly against a dark sofa. The pad is feather, so the face stays full at the corners and does not slacken along the fold where pale fabrics usually tire first. Two sizes are made, and with a pale face the larger one is usually the better buy, because the fringe has more edge to run along and the colour has more room to show its shifts. Set the smaller in front only where there is a darker face behind it to give the pale one an outline.
