The Scatterbox Cushion Elodie Blue is a scatter cushion in a short polyester velvet, finished along each edge with a cut fringe. It is one of nine colourways in the Elodie run, available in two sizes, and it is the blue that most often does the work of a pattern on a plain seat.

Where the Fringe Catches the Light

The pile is short and dense rather than long, so the face reads as a single flat colour from across a room and only shows its depth when a hand runs over it. The fringe is cut rather than looped, which is why it hangs straight instead of curling back on itself after a season of use. On a sofa the fringe is the part that catches light along the edge, and it is what separates one cushion from the next when several are set side by side.

A Blue That Sits Under Pattern

This is a deep blue rather than a bright one, so it holds its own beside a figured rug without competing with it. Put it behind a patterned face and it reads as a ground; put it alone on a plain chair and the fringe gives it enough interest to stand by itself. A feather pad sits inside, so it gives under a shoulder and lifts again afterwards, and a plump by hand resets the corners. Two sizes mean the larger one can sit at the back with the smaller in front.
