Little Greene Paint Olive Oil No.83

Olive Oil No.83 is a pale, soft yellow from Little Greene, with a yellow undertone. It has a light reflectance value of about 66, which places it in the light band of the range. It throws light back into a room rather than absorbing it, so it suits north-facing rooms, small spaces and anywhere you want to feel open.

Using Olive Oil in a scheme

Pair it with Linen Wash No.33, a white that shares its undertone; White Lead No.74, a lighter step in the same family; and Normandy Grey No.79, a deeper one for adjoining walls or woodwork. These pairings are worked out from the colour values themselves rather than lifted from Little Greene’s colour card, so treat them as a starting point rather than a rule.

Sampling this colour

A 60ml sample pot of Olive Oil is €8.50. It comes from Little Greene already mixed, so it is on our shelf and ships straight away. On a colour of any depth it is worth painting two walls of the room rather than one.

Olive Oil has been withdrawn from Little Greene’s current colour card. We still mix it. Every finish and size listed on this page is available to order on our own tinting system, and the 60ml sample pot is on the shelf.

Because it is no longer a catalogue colour, tinned sizes are made up when you order rather than held in stock, so allow a little longer than for a current shade. If you are matching existing paintwork, bring in a chip and we will check it against the mix before you commit to a full tin.

Priming and light

Little Greene tint their primers to the shade of the topcoat rather than working to fixed undercoat colours, so whichever primer the surface calls for, we mix it in Olive Oil. New or patch-repaired plaster takes Wall Primer Sealer; previously painted woodwork, radiators, metal, tiles and melamine take Intelligent ASP. Sound painted walls need nothing underneath — the Intelligent range is self-priming.

Pale colours do most of their work here on overcast days, when there is little direct sun to warm them. A north-facing room will pull it cooler; a south-facing room holds its warmth well into the afternoon.
