Ireland Illuminated Bone China Mug

The Ireland Illuminated Bone China Mug is a 370 ml fine bone china mug decorated with Ireland lettering and Celtic knotwork inspired by ancient illuminated manuscripts.

Celtic Manuscript Design in Green and Gold

The design recalls the illuminated gospels that monks once copied by hand. Colourful knotwork borders frame the Ireland lettering in green and gold on a white mug. Explore our Cups and Mugs range.

The 370 ml size holds a good cup of tea, coffee or hot chocolate. Hand washing is recommended to protect the decoration.

The best-known example of this art is the Book of Kells, made around 800 and now kept at Trinity College Dublin, where the pages are filled with interlacing knots, spirals and bright colour. The mug picks up that style in its borders, so it suits anyone who has seen the book or enjoys Irish history. Fine bone china has a smooth, light feel in the hand.

Everyday Irish Souvenir for Family Abroad

Because it is used every day, this mug is a practical gift for visitors and family living abroad. Browse more Irish-made gifts.

It is a good gift for a tourist to bring home, as it will be used every morning rather than sitting on a shelf. It also suits a relative abroad, a teacher at the end of the year or someone moving into their first flat. Wash it by hand in warm soapy water and dry it with a soft tea towel to keep the green and gold looking well.
