Farrow & Ball Borrowed Light No.235

Borrowed Light No.235 is a light blue from the Farrow & Ball Signature Palette, with a soft cool grey-green undertone that keeps it from reading cold. It sits in the light band of the Farrow & Ball palette. It reflects a generous amount of light, which makes it a dependable choice for north-facing rooms, hallways and smaller spaces that need to feel open.

Using Borrowed Light in a scheme

Blackened No.2011 is the white to run with it — it shares the same undertone, so ceilings, cornices and skirtings stay in the same key. For a scheme built on one colour, step up to Wevet No.273 on walls and down to Pitch Black No.256 on joinery.

Priming and light

Prime bare or previously painted surfaces with Farrow & Ball White & Light Tones Primer & Undercoat. Matching the primer to the depth of Borrowed Light gives truer colour and usually saves you a topcoat. Under the flat grey light we get for much of the year, pale shades lean cooler than they look on a card. Test the brightest and dullest wall in the room.
