James White No.2010 is the white to run with it — it shares the same undertone, so ceilings, cornices and skirtings stay in the same key. For a scheme built on one colour, step up to Wimborne White No.239 on walls and down to Reduced Green No.313 on joinery.

Priming and light

Prime bare or previously painted surfaces with Farrow & Ball Mid Tones Primer & Undercoat. Matching the primer to the depth of Ash Grey gives truer colour and usually saves you a topcoat. Irish light moves through the day and mid tones move with it. A test patch will show you how it reads in the morning and again under lamps.
