Table Lamps, Floor Lamps & Pendants — Choosing the Right Light for Each Room
The style of lighting is just as important as the style. Table lamps are the most adaptable, adding warmth and layers to a place without requiring any installation and working just as well in living rooms, bedrooms and corridors. Floor lamps perform the same thing, but on a bigger scale, and are a great choice if you want to fill a corner or make a reading space. Pendant lights may add architectural significance to a room—especially above a dining table or in a corridor where a ceiling fixture needs to make a statement. All three varieties come in a choice of finishes and designs, and they’re all 10% off in our sale.
What is the difference between a flush fitting and a semi-flush fitting?
A flush fitting rests flush to the ceiling with no drop. This is suitable for places with lower ceilings where a hanging pendant may seem restrictive. A semi-flush fitting has a short drop – normally 10-30cm – which gives it greater visual presence and enables for more ornamental designs, yet still sitting near enough to the ceiling to work in most conventional Irish rooms.
Are pendant lights suitable for low ceilings?
That depends on the drop length and the room. In a typical Irish ceiling of roughly 2.4m a pendant with a short or adjustable drop can work effectively – notably above a dining table where the fitting hangs above rather than in the walking space. If the ceilings are very low, a semi-flush or flush fitting is the safer alternative. Our team can advise you according to your particular room height.
Finishes & Styles — From Antique Brass to Satin Nickel
The finish on a light fitting is what connects it to the rest of a room, so it's worth thinking about before you buy. Antique brass and gold finishes suit warmer interiors — rooms with natural wood, earthy tones, or traditional furniture tend to respond well to them. Bronze sits in a similar warm family but reads as slightly more understated. Satin nickel and silver grey are cooler, cleaner finishes that work in contemporary or Scandinavian-influenced spaces. What lamp shade shape works best with a table lamp base?
Drum shades are the most versatile — their straight sides work with most base shapes and suit both modern and traditional interiors. Coolie shades have a wider, more tapered profile that suits taller, slimmer bases. For decorative bases — sculptural or patterned — a simpler, plainer shade tends to let the base do the talking. Is antique brass lighting back in style?
Yes — antique brass has made a strong comeback in Irish and UK interiors over the past few years and shows no sign of fading. It works particularly well alongside natural materials like linen, rattan, and timber, and pairs beautifully with warm paint colours. Do I need a special fitting for bathroom lighting?
Yes — bathroom lighting must carry an IP (Ingress Protection) rating appropriate for its position in the room. Zones closer to the shower or bath require a higher IP rating. All bathroom lighting in our range is specified for bathroom use, but if you're unsure about placement, our team are happy to advise before you order.

Yes – we have some of our lighting range displayed in our stores in Ballybofey and Letterkenny where you can view finishes and proportions in context before you commit. Lighting is one of those purchases that really benefits from seeing in person - what looks beautiful in a product photo might seem completely different in a setting. Our team is here to assist you in making the correct call. All the whole sale collection is available to view and buy online too.
How much is delivery on lighting orders in Ireland?
The delivery of lights and home accessories is determined at checkout according to your order. If you want to know before you order, we can have our experts look up charges for your exact order. If you are a local to Donegal you are also quite welcome to collect in store from either our Ballybofey or Letterkenny store.
